My name is Paul Badrick. I first started line dancing for a laugh back in October 1996 - I have been hooked ever since. I was going to classes five nights a week to begin with, then, in August 1997 I went to the very first "Chance To Dance" festival hosted by the Dean Brothers (then John & Jim) at Harrogate . This made me realise what we were all missing out on. So I started teaching one class a week. This came about after a small number of dancers wanted to learn more up to date dances which were popular at festivals. Gradually, more people heard of my class and wanted to come along - that was when I started teaching more seriously. I took exams with the Scottish Western Academy Of Dance in March 1998. Soon afterwards, I was asked to start another class at a local Cricket club. Now, I currently run two local classes a week. Since then, the Scottish Western Academy of Dance has folded and I am now a member of the Best Western Dance Academy. In May 1999, I entered a dance I choreographed (called Limbo Rock) into Ann Napier's choreography competition up in Dalkeith. My dance was one of over 60 entries and I made it to the last eight. At the final, the choreographers demonstrated their dances on 22nd May at the competition in Dalkeith. I won the competition with Limbo Rock. I originally wrote Limbo Rock to Ronnie McDowell's "Yippy Ti Yi Yo" from Line Dance Fever 2. After the competition, I changed the name of the dance to "Eruption" and put it to Volcano by Jimmy Buffet (from Toe The Line 4). |
